If you want to be great, don’t settle for a notch above average

I like being an average guy. But there are certain aspects I am not okay being average at:

  • Husband
  • Father
  • Friend

I want to be the best in these categories. To be the best, I actively work hard to ensure my wife, son, and friends have the best Declan possible.

However, there are areas in my life where I say I want to be the best but instead settle for just a notch above average.

Take for example my dream of becoming self-employed. To make this dream a reality I need three things:

  1. A kick-ass work ethic
  2. A side-hustle that generates decent revenue
  3. An ability to honestly self-assess my progress

Accomplishing your dream is hard, borderline impossible. The real world is harsh and competitive and if you want to be the best at something, you must commit to putting action behind this desire.
