I remember the first dollar I made outside of my traditional J-O-B.
A few years back my wife and I ran a cooking blog. What started as a means to help us become better cooks soon became more than a passion project.
One particular post we wrote went semi-viral on Pinterest. Tens of thousands of readers came pouring in to read our Hot Apple Cider (with vanilla Vodka) recipe.
“Maybe we should put an ad on the site?” I asked my wife.
“Yeah, but do they actually work?” She answered.
I signed up for Google Adsense and placed 3 ads on our site. It took less than an hour to figure out and set up.
We made $8 on the first day. The next day we made $10.
“I can’t believe this works!”
We’ve made a few hundred dollars off of that post. It’s enough to pay for the hosting of all the other sites and projects I’ve built over the years.
Our cooking blog doesn’t make all that much anymore, but it doesn’t matter. I know there is a world out there without a ceiling. One that responds to amazing ideas and quality products.
That’s why I’m leaving my J-O-B next month. I’m tired of living with a ceiling over my head.
Give me some fresh air instead.
