Here’s the thing nobody tells you about working for yourself
It get’s lonely.
Since I started working for myself, I spend part of my time working from home and some part in random coffee places around Pittsburgh.
I like working from home because it’s quiet and I can focus.
I also like working in public because I enjoy being surrounded by the buzz and excitement.
But in either case, it’s lonely.
Beside my cats, it’s just me at home. And coffee shops don’t offer consistent patrons for me to get to know.
As a self-identified introvert, it’s lonely working for yourself.
Self-employment beats working in a cube farm any day of the week. But it takes extra effort to find decent human interaction. That’s why I’m going to try to:
- Start conversations at coffee shops
- Join a co-working space
- Find other self-employed folks in the area and work together
If anyone else has insight to share, please do. I’m new to all this.
